Service Center Hub

Facilities that assemble, store and test Electrical Submersible Pump equipment (pump, motor, seal, gas separator, etc.) from supplied subcomponents. Typical processes include assembly of new equipment, test (FAT), reclaim, inspect, and stock electrical submersible pump components and subcomponents. Cable test, rework and splice activities may be included in these facilities. Manufacturing processes may take place in these facilities as well. Assembly activities typically are comprised of new or a combination of new/used subcomponents.

Theory of operation

ESP systems are used to produce fluid from oil and water wells. They are used to aid production when the well no longer has the energy to produce on its own or to increase production.

ESP systems are typically installed above the perforation zone, allowing fluid to flow from the perforations past the motor. This fluid movement over the motor enables heat dissipation for heat generated in the motor. ESP systems convert electrical power into hydraulic power to lift the production fluid.

The following steps outline this energy conversion

  1. Production and system performance is optimized utilizing variable speed drives to change the supply power frequency and resulting ESP rotation.
  2. Long runs of power cable with copper conductors connect the motor with the surface power. 3. The motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
  3. The mechanical energy is communicated through the ESP system to the pump impellers via the coupled shaft.
  4. The rotating impellers convert mechanical energy into velocity energy.
  5. The pump diffusers convert the velocity energy into head energy or hydraulic power.

Hydraulic power or work performed by the pump equals the flow rate times the pump pressure differential.
